Sorting Sounds

Each of the 26 themes includes 12 photo cards that can be sorted by various attributes and coordinating reproducible cut-outs for graphing and patterning.

Supports the following math standards:
• Identify, sort, and classify objects by attribute.
• Identify objects that do not belong to a particular set.
• Recognize, describe, and extend patterns.
• Represent data using concrete objects, pictures, and graphs.

In this example, the dog house photo cards have been sorted into three groups by the position of the dog (right, middle, left). Children can draw the dog in the correct position on the reproducible cut-outs and use them to label a graph (graph reproducible included).

The same set of photo cards can be sorted in many ways. Provide children with sorting criteria or challenge them to discover their own ways to sort.

Use the reproducible cut-outs that coordinate with each theme to label graphs, label sorts, or create patterns.
